From the Silverdale blogOnce a year — but here's why that actually matters, and what happens inside a neglected system.
The short answer: once a year, every year. It's what every manufacturer recommends, it's what keeps your warranty valid, and it's the single cheapest way to avoid a mid-winter breakdown.
But here's what the recommendation doesn't show you. The photo above is a magnetic filter I removed from a system that hadn't been serviced in years — completely caked in black sludge. That sludge is magnetite: rust particles from inside your radiators and pipework, circulating through your boiler thousands of times a day. Left unchecked, it clogs the heat exchanger, wears out the pump, and turns a small problem into a four-figure one.
An annual service catches this early. We clean the filter, run a flue gas analysis, check the gas pressure and safety devices, and confirm everything is running to manufacturer specification. It takes under an hour.
There's a legal angle too: if you're a landlord, a Gas Safe inspection every 12 months isn't optional — it's the law, and you need the CP12 certificate to prove it.
If you can't remember when your boiler was last serviced, that's probably your answer. Book yours in and we'll put you on an annual reminder so you never have to think about it again.
